Mom brain

Thursday, October 17, 2013

When you have a baby and try to blog, es no bueno. It doesn't work.
(Having the cutest baby girl ever doesn't help)

The only thing you have that you would like to blog about is your baby and believe it or not,
no one else cares to hear about it nonstop. Especially if you're a reader and not a mom.
I remember passing up SO many 'mom blogs' before I was pregnant cuz I would see them and think "cool story bro." And then when you become a mom, your brain turns to mush and all you think about is your baby. 24 hours a day. And then your husband looks at you like you're an alien when you have misplaced almost every item in the house and can't remember where.
I made a very scientific diagram of this mommy brain.

It takes over your life. Like remember when your husband offered to take you on a shopping spree for all new clothes once the baby got there....and then you spent the whole time buying baby clothes instead? True story. Every time we go into town I skip the women's sections and go straight for baby-ville. Girls or boys section, doesn't matter. Then you end up with a baby girl wearing a Batman t-shirt, paired with some sweatpants and a headband. Boom. On any sane person this outfit would be nuts, but on a baby, its the cutest thing ever.

And p.s. this stinker turned 100 days old the other day. and I ate that entire cake in one day. Cuz that hot body that you wanted back after the baby, that you swore you would work on everyday until it was perfect....doesn't matter anymore because that cutie baby needs your attention all day and Jillian Michael's must wait. (In my case she has waited 4 months but who's counting?)

Do you guys even remember that I live in Germany of all places. There are castles and festivals galore, yet instead I flood instagram with pictures of my baby. Cuz I can. and it's all I care about. Pretty sure this is the first picture I have posted other than the baby in 4 months.

But why post that when you can post this? I die. Look at that cuteness.

All you mamas and not-yet-mamas out there, what are your thoughts on this?
Definitely going to start trying to blogg more and taking photos of things other than Mila,
but I can't promise anything.

  2. You should blog about whatever you want to blog about, or don't blog at all if you don't feel like it! It's your blog and your life. If you blog about the baby and somebody doesn't want to read that post, then that's their choice. I'm sure that you will get other readers who are interested in reading about your baby and motherhood!

  3. I'm not a mama and I will STILL be upset if you stop posting 3481239487 pictures of that cutie patootie every single day. Screw the castles and beer - we want Mila! ;)

  4. She is so dang cute.

Don't worry.. when she gets Teagans age, you will be back to blogging!

  5. honestly, i'm not a mama, but i don't mind moms who blog about their babies one bit. i pick up all sorts of info for when i am one, and cute babies are the best!

  7. You could post everyday about her and I wouldn't care! I know how hard it is, especially when you're a stay at home mom. Eventually the balance comes back but for me, the girls always win when it comes to IG pics. As you already know. haha
Mila is so stylish! We are going shopping tomorrow to my favorite outdoor mall and I am more excited to go to Baby Gap then going to any store for myself.

  8. aw i love her! and #momfail i didn't even realize or celebrate Kenz's 100day bday?! ps i think it's expected of us right now ;) Our friends and true followers won't mind our baby updates..Eventually we'll snap back to life and other thiwill exist but right now Mila is better than a castle! (although that pic of the one is pretty cool). Ps umm shopping spree?! your man needs to advise mine on this rule ;)

  9. I don't have kids but seriously... she's too cute not to share. Remember to take your photos in Germany you won't be there forever and will probably wish you had taken more, but at the same time, keep the baby pics coming because she's too cute and way too important not to document EVERY waking moment (and sleeping ones).

  10. She's stinkin' adorable! I'm a non-mommy blogger here and although mom blogs aren't always my favorite to read, I enjoy skimming through them and looking at the pictures, but I'll be honest, I hardly read it all. I think everyone's blogs develop throughout the years and I don't see anything wrong with that. If your blog shifts more to the mom side, yes, I'll be honest, I'll probably read less, but I'll enjoy the adorable pictures, but you'll probably gain a different set of readers who do enjoy reading what you have to say about mom life. I think that's fine! You probably enjoy reading mom blogs more than you thought you ever would, and my blog probably isn't as exciting or informative for you. I do love that you live in Germany and that was probably my biggest draw to you because I would LOVE to visit/live in Germany one day, but I don't blame you for being obsessed with something so adorable and precious in your life! You blog about what you want to blog about. Some will like it, some won't, but then again... it was that case before the baby too. It's how all of our blogs are, we'll never appeal to every demographic! :) Just blog about what you want and don't feel bad about it!

  12. Haha I love this post. I sweeeear I'm not going to turn into a "mommy blogger/social media-er" but who am I kidding. I think it's inevitable, huh? ;) Anyway, Mila is freaking ADORABLE and I never get sick of cute photos of her, either!! Hey, you could always take pictures of her in the foreground, and gorgeous amazing castles/scenery of Germany behind her! Win/win! :)

  14. I TRY to balance it out but lets be real. The kiddos get 75% of the post glory and I just can't avoid it. I say embrace it!

  15. I'm in the same boat...The only posts I've cranked out since the baby's birth are posts about her...But as a mom, I now read all my mama friend's baby posts (:

  16. I am right there with you! I have no desire to look for clothes for myself and I have just started to relearn to blog about other things besides my daughter. I think that's how it should be. Your baby is growing and you don't want to miss those moments and they become a higher priority.

  17. I laughed so hard. This is so true! I've been torturing you with baby/mommy stories for months. "Cool Story Bro" is now what I say to fitness blogs. LMAO!

  19. That diagram? On the nose.

That daughter? Oh my heavens, what a doll! She is unfairly adorable.

  20. Oh man, right there with ya. I literally sit at my computer and try to think of something else to post about, but honestly the only thing that I can think of is anything and everything Grayson. So glad I'm not the only one in this situation...

  26. Yup, same boat over here! I think my entire Instagram feed is only of my babes and sometimes the hubby haha! I don' t think I've blogged for about a month, crazy. Oh your babe, is absolutely gorgeous! Ps. I would have it any other way :)

  27. What a sweet little girl! I'm a new follower on bloglovin. I love mama blogs and all things baby. :) It's funny because now that I am a mom (my son is 13 months) I kind of pass over blogs that aren't "mom blogs," because I am simply at a different place in life than so many of those women. -Andrea www.handandtheheart.com

  28. Same here. I legitimately post pictures of Jack or the alcohol I'm drinking on date days. That's it. I guess it's a step up since before I got pregnant my IG feed was very alcohol and food heavy. I feel the same way. I live in L.A. and all summer long maybe one picture of the beach? A kajillion pictures of Jack in his bouncy chair or baby wrap though. Haha. I love seeing pictures of Mila.

  29. I hear all of this and second it! Haven't posted a non-baby pic on FB since...well, probably since he was born!
I haven't gotten back to blogging b/c I know all I'd have to talk about is my baby, and I'm not sure where to even start with that! In fact even considered changing the name of the blog.
Anyhow... Mila is adorbs and funny thing is now that I AM a mom, I find myself reading more mommy blogs! ;-) There is a different audience for everyone and everything.
